Respect for the dead

((وَلَقَدْ كَرَّمْنَا بَنِي آدَمَ وَحَمَلْنَاهُمْ فِي الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ وَرَزَقْنَاهُم مِّنَ الطَّيِّبَاتِ وَفَضَّلْنَاهُمْ عَلَىٰ كَثِيرٍ مِّمَّنْ خَلَقْنَا تَفْضِيلًا ﴿الإسراء: ٧٠﴾

And We have certainly honoured the children of Adam and carried them on the land and sea and provided for them of the good things and preferred them over much of what We have created, with [definite] preference.

The Muslim Judicial Council [MJC] declares and reaffirms a public statement made by the MJC in 1973 by the former President of the MJC at the time, Shaykh Ihsaan Gamieldien who stated that “Henceforth Muslim burial grounds are sacred and therefore it cannot be sold nor can bodies be exhumed”.  Further documentation In reference to the statement by the MJC is found in Dr Achmat Davids’ publication titled the History of the Tana Baru which states that “all Muslim cemeteries are sacred and cannot be desecrated in any way”.

Following the Muslim Judicial Council led peaceful protest march denouncing the coup d ‘etat in Egypt which was supported by 8 major Islamic Organizations in South Africa. The MJC met with the Deputy Minister of International Relations Co-operation, Mr. Marius Fransman.

The agenda of the meeting was to express the MJC’s disappointment that the memorandum addressed to the Minister of International Relations and Co-operation, Minister Maite Nkoana- Mashabane was not received by a Member of Parliament.  MJC further expressed their appreciation for the speedy and positive action taken by the African Union and the SA Government to restore democracy in Egypt.

MJC calls for Urgent March PDF  | Print |  E-mail

The Muslim Judicial Council on Sunday,14 July hosted an Iftaar programme at the Darul Islam Mosque in Surrey Estate and invited various representatives of the Arab world and the local community to express its solidarity at a time when the Muslim/Arab world is experiencing great challenges and difficulties. The programme ended with a call to the community to attend a "Citizen's March" to show its support for Muslims and all oppressed in the world and to raise its voice against the atrocities perpetrated against all the oppressed. Details of the march are as follows;
