MJC protest against Egypt state terrorism PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Following the ousting of the democratically elected President, Mohamed Mursi and the brutal killing of pro-democracy protesters, the Muslim Judicial Council [SA] hosted two successive protest marches to parliament, 17 July 2013 and 21 August 2013 respectively.
The focus area of the protests was the condemnation of the brutality of the illegitimate military rulers who have used heavy artillery to silence the voices of peaceful sit-in protesters in Egypt. Protestors accused the Egyptian military of state terrorism used to strangle the democratic process and they condemned the imposition of martial law which turned legitimate protests into bloodbaths and reversed the process of democratic gains made during the past year.

The protest was led by Shaykh Irfaan Abrahams and Shaykh Ebrahim Gabriels with chants and slogans calling for the release of Mursi and “Down with Sisi”, the military chief. Both religious leaders have been extremely vocal on their condemnation of the violence and have hosted in-depth awareness programmes at their masajid on the political crisis in the country.
