Violation of respect for the sanctity of Masjidul Aqsa PDF  | Print |  E-mail

5 September 2013

The Muslim Judicial Council [SA] and the Media Review Network [MRN] condemns the unlawful, provocative and random arrest of Shaykh Raed Salah, the leader of the Islamic Movement 1948 in Jerusalem who was arrested on Tuesday, 3 September, 2013. The arrest of the man known as Shaykhul Aqsa (because of his commitment to the protection of the third Holiest mosque in Islam), appears to be a pretext for the planned storming and desecration of the mosque by Jewish settlers and US tourists who entered the precinct on Wednesday, 4 September to mark the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah.

Israeli's arrest Shaikh Raed Salah in Jerusalem PDF  | Print |  E-mail

The Israeli security authorities have arrested Shaikh Raed Salah, the head of the Islamic movement in Israel, while he was driving near Jerusalem. He was on his way to a press conference called to mobilise Palestinians to defend Al-Aqsa Mosque when his car was pulled over by a number of security agents.

The chairman of Al-Aqsa Foundation, Ali Abu Sheikha, was in the car with Shaikh Raed at the time. "I was accompanying Shaikh Raed Salah to the press conference venue when we noticed that several Israeli intelligence vehicles were following us. The officers said that he was being arrested for 'inciting riots in Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa'." They made specific reference, said Abu Shaikha, to the call for local Palestinians to spring to the defence of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque against Israel's Judaisation policies.

MJC protest against Egypt state terrorism PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Following the ousting of the democratically elected President, Mohamed Mursi and the brutal killing of pro-democracy protesters, the Muslim Judicial Council [SA] hosted two successive protest marches to parliament, 17 July 2013 and 21 August 2013 respectively.
The focus area of the protests was the condemnation of the brutality of the illegitimate military rulers who have used heavy artillery to silence the voices of peaceful sit-in protesters in Egypt. Protestors accused the Egyptian military of state terrorism used to strangle the democratic process and they condemned the imposition of martial law which turned legitimate protests into bloodbaths and reversed the process of democratic gains made during the past year.

The protest was led by Shaykh Irfaan Abrahams and Shaykh Ebrahim Gabriels with chants and slogans calling for the release of Mursi and “Down with Sisi”, the military chief. Both religious leaders have been extremely vocal on their condemnation of the violence and have hosted in-depth awareness programmes at their masajid on the political crisis in the country.
