The President of the Muslim Judicial Council (MJC), Maulana I. Hendricks called on the Deputy Minister of the Department of International Relations and Co-operation (DIRCO), Marius Fransman for an urgent discussion on the deteriorating humanitarian crisis in the Central African Republic (CAR).

The Deputy Minister agreed that the situation is very dire and requires greater intervention from South Africa.

On behalf of the MJC, Maulana I. Hendricks emphasized the necessity for the South African society to play an important role toward addressing the crisis. MJC will thus pursue the appropriate avenues with Dirco to allow meaningful intervention from SA Government, Civil Society and Religious groups in particular.  The MJC believes that the SA Interfaith model should be promoted to the CAR specifically and for Africa generally.

The meeting agreed that the DIRCO will facilitate and provide full support to the MJC for Interfaith Dialogue on the CAR humanitarian crisis.

End.
