MJC hosts IHH representative, Sister Nalan Dal PDF  | Print |  E-mail

The Muslim Judicial Council[MJC] was honored once again to welome Sister Nalan Dal, the International Public Relations Co-ordinator IHH-Humanitarian Relief Foundation to South Africa. The IHH which was established in 1992, is a Turkish NGO that provides humanitarian relief in areas of war, natural disasters and conflict. Its members are predominantly Turkish Muslims, active in more than 100 countries.

Sister Nalan visited South Africa last year in order to share the realities of the brutal conflict taking place in Syria where 93,000 people have lost their lives, with the Muslim community in South Africa. Sister Nalan shared first hand experiences of the trauma and struggles of the displaced families seeking refuge and survival.

MJC WEEKLY SIYAAM/FASTING PROGRAM FOR LIBERATION OF PALESTINE PDF  | Print |  E-mail

COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT

 

The connection between the occupied nation of Palestine and the South African community has always been one of vibrant solidarity and commitment through lobbying and awareness programs. One such program is a program initiated by Shaykh Ebrahim Gabriels, Director of Al Aqsa Foundation [SA] who called on our community to fast every Thursday until Palestine is liberated.

The program which concludes with iftaar (breaking of the fast) at various Masajid in the Western Cape will be hosted at the Hopefield Masjid, 60 School Street, Hopefield on Thursday, 6 February, 2014, where those who have fasted will break their fast and join in the program after Mahrib.

As Muslims in South Africa, we understand the meaning of liberation from occupation and oppression.

MJC REPRESENTS SA IN “I NEED YOU” CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED BY THE UNIW

At an International Press Conference linking some of the 130 members from 40 countries, the Union of NGOs of the Islamic World (UNIW) launched the “I need you” Campaign with the support of humanitarian organizations, foundations, associations, NGOs and professional organizations. The Muslim Judicial Council [MJC], which an Executive member of the Islamic Union of Muslim Scholars [IUMS] represented South Africa at the teleconference that brought 40 countries amongst them Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, France, Lebanon, Libya and Yemen to commit towards the collective international drive which took place on Tuesday, 4 February 2014.

STATEMENT FROM MUSLIM JUDICIAL COUNCIL (SA) ON PASSING OF FORMER PRESIDENT NELSON MANDELA

6 December 2013

To God we belong and to Him we shall all return” Quran Chapter 2, verse 156

On behalf of the President, the Executive Council, its Senior Council, membership of the MJC and the Muslim community, we hereby wish to offer our sincere condolences to the wife Graca Machell, the children, grandchildren, family and friends, colleagues and associates, as well as to the South African Government and to all South Africans on the passing of our former President, Nelson Mandela.

During this time of mourning, South Africans and the global community face a stirring moment of great sadness at the demise of a great man, Rohlihlahla “Nelson” Mandela, fondly known as Madiba. Through the trials of the life of Madiba, the arrests, incarceration and isolation, it was his beautiful character that remained unblemished as the world witnessed when he stood before his oppressors, and when he finally tasted freedom after 27 years in prison.

 

We remember with fondness the honour he bestowed upon our late former President Shaykh Nazeem Mohamed, who offered a prayer at his (Madiba’s) inauguration in 1994.

Today, we remind ourselves more than ever, that we follow the legacy of a great man and that South Africa should live by his words when he said:

I can rest only for a moment, for with freedom comes responsibility, and I dare not linger, for my long walk is not yet ended”.

 

To this expression Tata, we say that your long walk will never end, and for those who come after you we pray they will uphold your legacy that will ensure that no human being should ever be oppressed because of his colour, race, religion or ethnicity. We at the MJC commit ourselves to uphold his legacy and spirit of self-sacrifice. We call upon all South Africans to make the same commitments.

 

Viva Madiba!

Rest in peace, son of the African soil!

Rest in peace, Madiba!

Hamba Khahle Madiba!
