The role of the Hafith seems to be a major concern as southern and eastern African countries converged on Nairobi, Kenya
to discuss this very important topic. The DQA received an invitation from the International Institute for the memorization of the Holy Quran to attend this very important conference. Sh Abdullah Awaldien, H.O.D of the Dept. of Quranic Affairs and Sh. Basyooni of Johannesberg Hafith Institute, Madrassatul Tauheed, represented South Africa. The aim of the conference was to encourage the establishing of closer relations between southern and eastern African countries especially in the field of Quran. The fact that many Huffaath in the various countries of the world fail to play the very pivotal role they should was also one of the major concerns of the conference. Sh. Abdullah Awaldien delivered a paper titled " The Role of the Hafith in the South African community". The paper presented a detailed historical account of how the teaching of Quran started here in South Africa and who the major contributors to the development of Quran in South Africa were. The paper also described the role of the Hafith in the South African community and also listed the various duties performed by the people of Quran in an attempt to highlight the very important role the Haafith played in the over all development of South African Muslims. Results of the Quran conference will be forwarded to all participating countries in the near future Insha Allah. |
