The MJC welcomes German Court Verdict in Marwa el Shirbini murder trial. The Muslim Judicial Council welcomes the life imprisonment sentence served against Alexander Wiens who stabbed Marwa el-Sherbini in a German courtroom on the 1 July 2009. Justice has been served and in so doing will restore some of the faith that Muslims have for the German justice system which failed to protect Ms Sherbini during her trial against Wiens.
The sad ending of the trial during which an innocent pregnant woman lost her life will hopefully bring some sense to societies which make reckless inflammatory assertions resulting in the tragic loss of a life. We urge European society and especially its leaders to take responsibility for their insinuations and attempts to link hijab with terrorism and their undemocratic discourse/laws regarding banning of hijab. We therefore remind those who incite and inflame tensions between diverse cultures, religions and races to take heed of the effects of such irresponsible actions.
The ruling will bring some comfort to the family of Ms Sherbini but the life of a loved one can never be replaced. We pray that the Almighty will strengthen her family with patience and we hope the spirit of this brave woman who stood in defense of the rights of all Muslim women will bring them comfort.
