Muslim Judicial Council Pakistan Floods Appeal


Monsoon rains sweep across Pakistan each year, but since 21 July the rains have been stronger and more intense than usual, causing the worst floods for 80 years.The extent of the damage is severe, and the floods have taken lives and destroyed communities - demolishing entire villages, roads and bridges and ruining fields and crops and killing livestock.
The current death toll is reported to be 1,313, but this looks set to rise. In an addition to this thousands have been injured and 722,000 people have been displaced from their homes

Solidarity with Public Servants PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Muslim Judicial Council SA executive members showed their solidarity and support for public servants who took to the streets on Tuesday 10 August 2010 to protest government’s revised offer of a seven percent wage increase and housing allowance of R630. Public servants are demanding an 8.6 percent increase in wages and a R1,000 housing allowance.   Various unions under the banner of Cosatu and the Public Servants Association marched to Parliament to hand over a memorandum highlighting their demands.

MJC Secretary General Moulana Abdul Khaliq Allie, Shaykh Ebrahim Gabriels and Moulana Bienjamien Osman represented the MJC and addressed the march.

During the open discussion of the Pre Ramadaan Masaajid Committee meeting, of Friday 6 August 2010, hosted by the Muslim Judicial Council, those present was informed that the Imaam of the Gatesville Masjid, Sheikh Fuad Isaacs was recently threatened for having objected to the recent violation of the sanctity of the Masjid by certain elements who had objected to the presence of Ebrahim Rasool, former Premier of Western Cape and Ambassador to the United States. Rasool who had been invited to deliver the pre-Khutbah talk for Jumu’ah at the Masjid on Friday 11 July 2010. These elements deliberately disrupted the talk of Rasool asserting that he was unfit to occupy the Mihrab. The Masjid Committee and Jamaa’ah had made it clear that they strongly objected to the disruptions during the sacred wakt of Jumu’ah. The life of Sheikh Fuad has been threatened in retaliation for his recent action at having chastised those responsible for violating the sanctity of the Masjid.

Muslim Judicial Council SA President Moulana Ighsaan Hendricks, who is leading the South African delegation in the International Aid Convoy “Miles for Smiles”, has confirmed that the convoy entered Gaza through the Rafah Border on 9 August 2010. The convoy of 47 vehicles which includes ambulances and medical aid is set to deliver humanitarian aid to grief stricken Gaza. The convoy was organized by Interpal and Peace and Development for Palestine and consists of 50 activists from the United Kingdom, South Africa, Bahrain, Belguim, Holland, Yemen and Algeria.

In the spirit of Ramadaan, the Muslim Judicial Council (SA) has donated dates to Masaajid and other institutions. Here Moulana Aziem Khatieb, (Muslims Prisons Board) receives dates from the Treasurer of the Muslim Judicial Council (SA), Hajjee Yusuf Bharoochi. Dates have been contributed to Masaajid at a meeting held for Masaajid Committees on Friday 6th August 2010.
